How to Profit with Simple 15 Second Videos

About 12 months ago, I came upon this little image on my Facebook Advertising dashboard:

So I put my email address in and was taken to this page on the Facebook Advertiser Help Center:

This article from Facebook simply told me, they LIKE 15 second videos best. So if I use 15 second videos on Facebook, I’ll get more views and sales.

This immediately triggered me to test a short video and see what the results would be.

My 15 Second Video Test

How did I got about this test?

Well, I own a local eCommerce company called KNYEW which sells modern street wear clothing for men. And I decided this would be the perfect way to test Facebook’s 15-second video concept.

Here’s the ACTUAL test video created for KNYEW:

The guy on the left is Chris Brown, wearing a chainmail t-shirt that KNYEW offers, and the guy on the right is Jamie Fox.

Now, as you can see, what we did here was create a highly engaging video with a few text overlays. Short and simple, right?

Now that you’ve seen the video I created, let’s jump into EXACTLY what I saw for results when I used it on Facebook…

The results

I want to start by saying – this basic 15 second video helped me drive a massive amount of sales for KNYEW.

Take a look at this screen shot from my Facebook dashboard:

What you’re seeing above is simple:

  • $2,681.05 spent.
  • $52,970.15 in sales.

Now I know what you’re thinking.

“No wonder Jimmy, that’s how you got all those sales! Celebrities.”

But wait! Celebrities are not the make-or-break here.

Let me show you another screen shot from my Facebook campaign dashboard:

Those are two videos I’m currently running this month for our product Doodly.

We spent $1,706.29 for the video campaign on Facebook.

And the results so far?

Yes, that’s right – $12,642 in sales.

Now, I know that is not quite as impressive as the $52,970.50 from earlier, but the difference in sales is mostly due to the product’s pricing.

The KNYEW video was focused on a T-shirt offered at a 1-time price of $48.

Doodly is a monthly subscription service priced at $39 to $69 a month… which affects the conversions quite a bit.

BUT, think of it over a longer term. Say, over the next 6 months. 

$12,642 x 6 = $75,852 which is a pretty great return!

Get my point yet?

15 second videos work

Regardless of what niche or category on the web, when it comes to social media and advertising (especially Facebook) these little 15 second videos are what work best.

There’s a reason why Instagram offers 15 second stories. And Snapchat only offers 15 second snaps…

It’s because 15 seconds is a proven metric when it comes to attention spans. People just pay better attention to 15 second videos!

Here’s some more interesting data from my first test.

That breaks down devices that were used to the watch this video.

Of 127,815 people to view at least 3 seconds of video, 111,828 were on a mobile device or tablet.

That’s a whopping 92.5% of mobile viewers.

And one last little stat that may even shock you further…

85% of people DO NOT listen to or play the music of those videos on mobile.

That means 95,053 people did not even listen to the music in our video!

Those stats are pretty powerful, right?

So how do you get around that and leverage the power of video?

By simply placing STRONG call to actions combined with realistic and highly engaging visuals!

OK Jimmy, we get it, 15 second videos rock!

Alright, so this is where it all started and sparked for me.

I even started to test 15 second videos on Social Media for FREE traffic and got the same results: More views and engagement.

It’s obvious that Facebook (along with every other social network) realized that shorter is the way to go when it comes to displaying video.

All of this sounds great, right?

Well, unfortunately there is a problem with 15 second videos. Even though they are short, they are still time consuming and expensive to create.
