April of 2016 marked my 8th anniversary as a digital marketer.
And I reflected on the journey I took through those years – from starting off as a basic SEO writer, ranking websites to making affiliate commissions to building my email list and releasing digital marketing automation software to the world – I took a step back and recognized, it wasn’t until Sept of 2011, when I released my first digital product on Clickbank that I made my official break thru.
And it wasn’t a revolutionary product; it was a simple one, all about blogging.
You see, up until then, I was earning an average of $5k to $7k a month doing my “affiliate marketing” thing; working hard to make my sites rank for keyword terms, and getting a few visitors. I’d run to the computer every morning to see if I had earned a commission while I was sleeping.
And then it happened. I still remember the day: Sept 21, 2011.
I’d generated over $40,000 for my business in just a few days time and the light bulb went off in my head. This is what I realized:
- I didn’t need to buy or get traffic. I leveraged a marketplace that had all the affiliates and traffic I needed.
- I only paid when a sale was made – meaning, I didn’t pay upfront costs. I just paid a 50% commission to the “affiliate” for the sale.
- Up until then, I only had an email list of about 2,500 subscribers. In a 7-day span, I tripled my list to a whopping 7,500 people.
- My eyes REALLY opened up when I started to send paid traffic to my own webpage and saw REAL results at 100% profits.
Now, I’m not sharing this information to brag or to wow you, but to explain the logic of what happened when that light bulb went off in my head.
Many of my earlier products were just a collection of solid information I found for free on the Internet.
Information I tested to insure it worked. Then tweaked for ease, reorganized for a step-by-step method, and sold to the public.
And if you look at even the best digital products on the internet today, in most cases, the information provided can actually be found for free on the Internet in one way or another.
It’s the actual collection and organization of the information that makes it valuable.
Plus, the sales copy and messaging that helps SELL that information.
This light bulb triggered ME to research and produce product after product of my own to release into the marketplace.
Since Sept 2011, I’ve helped sell an astonishing $50 million dollars in digital information in one form or another, as an affiliate, consultant, or product owner.
Now what was the point of this entire story?
Well, back in April, in one of my private membership forums, I introduced a concept.
It was the concept of accelerating my students’ success by giving them everything from A to Z to get them on the fast track.
I sent out a short survey to ask who would be interested, gave them an estimated price and…
The response was OVERWHELMING.
I knew I had hit a pain point in their lives.
So my team and I put our heads down and got to work.
From April to November, we worked diligently – getting every element of the project together.
In fact, we took massive pride in developing not just good products but GREAT ones; products that I would proudly put my name behind and sell myself.
And as much as I wanted to keep these courses to sell, I remembered I’d made a commitment to my students and kept my eyes on the prize.
